Craven County Jail Roster Overview
The official Craven County inmate records source for current county jail custody is the Jail Active Bookings table. The Craven County Detention Center page links it as the housed inmate listing and says it shows current inmates housed at the Craven County Detention Facility. The county also warns that juveniles and federal inmates are not included and that jail administration should be contacted for those groups.
The roster is a static table titled "Jail Active Bookings" with the subtitle "Charges, Bond Amounts, and Court Dates." It is free and public. It does not require a login, but it also has no search form, filter, released-inmate archive, or profile page. A practical Craven County inmate lookup uses browser find, careful reading of the row, and the jail phone when the online entry is missing or hard to read.
The Craven County Detention Center page is the official starting point for roster, visitation, mail, deposits, and phone rules.
The county page is important because it contains the roster link and the operating notes that explain why the active-bookings table is not the only access channel.
How to Use Craven County Inmate Records
The Craven County jail roster is best used like a live table. Start broad, then confirm details against the booking number, booking date, charge text, bond field, and court date. Similar names can appear on any jail roster, and a single row can contain more than one charge or court date.
- Open the Detention Center page and choose the Inmate Listing link, or open the active-bookings table directly.
- Use browser find for the last name, then try the first name or an alternate spelling.
- Compare the booking number and booking date to separate similar names.
- Read the statute and statute description together because several charges can be grouped in one row.
- Treat the bond total as a roster field, not a promise of release.
- Call 252-636-6619 for missing names, juvenile or federal exclusions, stale entries, or unclear holds.
Craven County Roster Search Fields
The roster has no input fields. That is the most important usability fact. It publishes fields as columns, and users search the browser page instead of submitting a county form. The field inventory below describes what appears on the table, not what a user types into a portal.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facility | Static table column | n/a | Observed as CCDC. |
| Booking ORI | Static table column | n/a | Observed format like NC0250000. |
| Booking Number | Static table column | n/a | Year and sequence format, such as 2026-00000594. |
| Inmate Last Name | Static table column | n/a | Use browser find for this field. |
| Inmate First Name | Static table column | n/a | Search first-name variants if a last-name search is broad. |
| Booking Date | Static table column | n/a | Date and time of booking. |
| Bond Total | Static table column | n/a | One total amount, not full bond-type detail. |
| Statute Description | Static table column | n/a | Plain charge descriptions; multiple values can appear. |
What Craven County Inmate Records Show
Craven County public inmate records show enough to identify a current booking and connect it to charge and court information. They do not show the full jail file. Housing location, date of birth, physical descriptors, arrest narrative, warrant number, and release history were not visible in the inspected public table.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Booking Number | A unique active-booking identifier in year-sequence format. |
| Booking Date | The date and time the jail booking was recorded. |
| Name | Last name and first name in separate columns. |
| Charges | Statute code plus statute-description text, with possible multiple charges. |
| Bond Total | A dollar total for the booking row, not full conditions of release. |
| Court Date | One or more date/time entries when available. |
| Mugshot | Not shown in the public roster inspected for Craven County. |
| Housing Unit | Not shown. |

Because the table is dense and text-only, the booking number and court-date columns are often the best way to avoid confusing two people with similar names.
Finding County, State, and Federal Inmates
Craven County inmate records split by custody system. A person recently arrested in New Bern, Havelock, or elsewhere in the county is usually checked first through the county active bookings. A person sentenced to prison is checked through NC DAC Offender Public Information. A federal sentenced prisoner uses the BOP inmate locator, while immigration custody uses ICE ODLS. VINELink offers custody-status notifications across county and state systems.
No official Craven County Sheriff's mobile app with an inmate roster, warrant lookup, or app-only custody tool was found in the sources reviewed. That keeps the access chain web based: active bookings for county jail custody, the jail phone for omissions, Sheriff's records for records questions, NC DAC for sentenced state custody, and federal locators for federal or immigration custody.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Important Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Current county jail booking | Craven County active-bookings table | Excludes juveniles and federal inmates. |
| Sentenced state prisoner | NC DAC offender search | DAC says it does not include county jail information. |
| Federal sentenced inmate | BOP inmate locator | No BOP facility was found in Craven County. |
| Immigration detainee | ICE Online Detainee Locator System | The county roster is not the right federal immigration locator. |
| Release notification | NC SAVAN/VINELink | Notification service, not a complete jail record. |
Craven County Jail Facilities
The county jail and the state prison have different operators and different search rules. The county jail is run by the sheriff and uses the active-bookings table. Craven Correctional Institution is run by NC DAC and uses the state locator. A person may start in the county jail after arrest and later enter DAC custody after conviction and sentencing.

Craven County Booking Process
After a Craven County arrest, North Carolina law requires the officer to take the arrested person before a magistrate without unnecessary delay. The magistrate advises the person of the charges, rights to communicate with counsel and friends, and release circumstances. For warrantless arrests, the magistrate decides whether probable cause exists. If probable cause exists, a magistrate's order can support detention and the case moves into the jail and court process.
Jail booking creates the booking number, booking date/time, and active-bookings entry if the person is included in the public list. The county does not publish a precise timeline for when a new booking appears. The roster says it is updated as often as possible, so a recent arrest may require a phone check before the table catches up.
Property has a local rule worth noting. Effective April 1, 2023, personal property may be released only within the first 24 hours of initial booking. After that window, property is held until release from custody. Property questions are routed to Captain Smith at csmith@cravencountync.gov in the county materials.

Contacting a Craven County Inmate
Inmates cannot receive incoming phone calls. Craven County uses Securus Technologies for collect calls and account setup, with a phone setup option at 1-800-844-6591. The county warns that calls are recorded, may be monitored at any time, and called-party information is available to law enforcement. Prepaid telephone calls, voicemails, and emails can be funded through Securus.
Mail rules are strict. Since April 10, 2023, books are not accepted except legal documents or legal books. The county also prohibits Polaroids, postcards, unapproved magazines and newspapers, comic strips or puzzle pages, padded or double-lined envelopes, stickers, explicit content, many cards, blank paper, stamps, and envelopes. Inmates buy paper, stamps, and envelopes through canteen.
Craven County Inmate Funds
Craven County directs money deposits to JailATM. Users create an account, choose the facility, enter the inmate name, and deposit funds by credit card. Craven-specific transaction fees and deposit limits were not visible in the public materials without account and facility selection, so amounts should be confirmed inside the vendor portal before payment.
| Service | Provider or Detail | Published Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Online deposits | JailATM | Not published in public county page. |
| Phone calls | Securus collect or prepaid accounts | Vendor pricing applies. |
| Notary service | Fridays during business hours | $10 per page from inmate account. |
Note: Confirm custody by phone before sending money, because releases, transfers, and holds can change after a roster check.
